We spent the last week of 2015 in Indiana – visiting, meeting, hugging, relaxing, Christmas-ing, and surprise party-ing.
We started our 2-day journey the day after Christmas. We drove 6 hours from our house to the Pennsylvania/Ohio line and unloaded all the bags and things we would need (in the pouring rain…). Peyton and Indie both did really good overnight. Peyton might have fussed once in the middle of the night and Indie only growled at a noise once or twice.
We started the next day early. We hit the road by 7:00 am, shortly after Peyton finished nursing, and it rained most of the morning (we re-loaded all of our bags in the pouring rain…). We made it to my parent’s house around 12:30 pm. We had some visitors stop by (Mark & Katie, Jason, Suzie & Jake) to meet Peyton for the first time as well as Grandma J and Aunt Amanda.
After the visitors left we celebrated Christmas! We had a yummy dinner (pork chops!), exchanged gifts, took a few pictures, and enjoyed hanging out. It was so fun watching Peyton & Chansler opening their gifts. Chansler would tear open a gift, not even look to see what it was and reach for the next one to rip open (even if it wasn’t his!). Peyton was mostly hoping to get a taste of the wrapping paper but she did so good!
We had a gathering at my grandma’s house the next evening for relatives and family friends to see us and meet Peyton. My mom had planned the whole thing but we ended up surprising HER with a birthday cake – an early celebration for her birthday in January!
We spent an evening visiting/doing Christmas at Forest’s grandparent’s house one night. Peyton met so many more relatives and got a few more gifts!
The next day was busy. We did Christmas with the Johnson’s in the morning. Exchanging gifts, playing with them (that was mostly Peyton), and a good breakfast. It doesn’t matter how many gifts Peyton opens, I’m still going to love watching her!
Later in the afternoon we had an early surprise birthday party for Forest’s dad! He showed up before all of the guests but we already had food out and decorations up so he was still surprised. And their house was packed with close to 60 people!
This day/night was New Year’s Eve. I hadn’t been feeling 100% all day so I ended up going to bed about 10:30. And Forest crawled into bed by 12:30 – He stayed up just long enough to watch the ball drop and then he was done.
On New Year’s Day, we had college friends (Kyle, Cait+baby-on-the-way & Brooke) stop by to visit, meet Peyton, and plan their next trip out to New Jersey!! It was so good catching up with them and the new things in their lives!
Both of our families gathered for dinner that evening. I love when we’re all able to get together like that! And we took family pictures, obviously.
We left the next morning after organizing and packing everything into the car. I’m pretty sure we went back with more than we arrived with but I guess that’s to be expected with a baby and Grandparents and Aunts & Uncles that like to spoil her. We aren’t complaining though – we are so happy we were able to spend a whole week with our families! And Indie was glad she had a week of wrestling with other dogs, even if they mostly tried to avoid her. She still had a great time, too!
And I’ll end with a few more random pictures from our trip.
Until next time — Cindy
