Family Pictures | in our own backyard

We did family pictures in our own backyard this year.  Both girls were sick, it was cold outside and it just didn’t seem worth the effort to load everyone in the car to drive to a pretty park when our own backyard had a few colorful leaves and our favorite spots to sit.  As I was picking my favorite ones I realized we didn’t any of just the girls together and we didn’t get any of just me and Forest.  But the ones we did get are precious and I can’t wait to get some printed for our walls and add them to our Christmas card.

These are a few of my favorites.  And if you scroll far enough you’ll get to see a few outtakes!

We took these pictures on our 6th wedding anniversary so we got a few pictures of our annual picture, holding the frame with the picture from the year before.

And the outtakes.  Because pictures with a 2.5 year old and 5 month old are super easy (said no one ever).

And there you have it.  A handful of family photos for us to cherish forever and hang on our walls.  Maybe next year the kids won’t be sick, we’ll take them when it’s a little warmer and we’ll take them at a pretty park. Or maybe we’ll take them in our backyard again and I’ll hang them on our walls and treasure them just the same.

Until next time — Cindy

Family Pictures | October 2016

We’ve made it a tradition to do our family pictures the weekend of Halloween.  Last year’s pictures were taken ON Halloween and this year it was a few days before.  We found a cute little area at a local park with several different background options.  I’m ‘always worried we’ll never get good ones and this year it was tough getting Peyton to smile because she would obviously rather be running around and exploring.  But we knew going in to expect that and we made the best of it!

I have too many favorites but here are a few  10,000 of my most favorite!

Thoughts on Thursday – 9.29.2016

Hi again friends!  Happy Thursday to ya!

We’ve had rainy/gloomy weather all week and it’s expected to continue through the weekend.  I think Peyton and I are both feeling the effects of a lack of vitamin D so we’ll be super happy when the sunshine decides to make an appearance again.

This morning, after Forest left and we had read 3 of her 4 new books, Peyton and I headed to Target (since we couldn’t go to the park or play outside).  We didn’t have anything to buy, I just let her wander around the toy and book aisles and she had the best time!  She made a new friend near the Doc McStuffins toys and she couldn’t walk away from the inflatable pumpkin in the Halloween section.  She was completely in love with a pair of boys Pikachu PJ’s and continually said uh-oh when we walked by clothes on the floor (she didn’t stop uh-oh’s until I hung the clothes back up!).  She was so upset when we had to leave so I think I know the perfect remedy for gloomy and/or cold weather.

LOOKING AHEAD | GOALS FOR NEXT MONTH

  1. This is more related to my photography: organize a few fall things to help promote myself/get my name out there/get my business up and running!
  2. I copied this one from last month (which was copied from June!) because it still needs to be done and I have a plan to start tomorrow soon!  Organize our books and sort our papers. I read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and the first step is clothing which we went through and donated 1 HUGE bag of clothing from our dressers and closets in March or April.  The next step is books and papers and I’ve been avoiding this tidying because we have papers everywhere in our house.  I know I’ll feel better and we’ll be more organized after I tackle this task but man…. It’s gonna be a tough one.
  3. Print pictures for my 2016 365 project.  I have the photo album that I’ll be using (it’s similar to what I used for last year’s 52-project) but I have zero pictures printed so far. (copied from July….)
  4. Take Peyton to a local splash pad/park on my days off of work.  With school starting back up they should be less crowded and I think she’ll enjoy these places now that she’s toddling around by herself more.

Until next time — Cindy

It’s a big day!

Today is a big day!  July 19, 2016 is the last day I’ll come into work as a full-time employee!

 I’m shifting titles!

from employee to mommy (and wife[y]),

from 8-5 to small business owner and homemaker,

from accountant to photographer.

I’m transitioning out of my day job as an accountant to be a stay at home mom/wife/homemaker and a small business owner at Captured by Cindy Photography!  I am so thankful for the 3 years that I’ve been working at my current company.  I’ve created several great working relationships and friendships within the finance department!  However, there are reorganizations happening throughout the company (not just our department) and, although my position is not in jeopardy of being eliminated, my work load would probably increase and Forest and I agreed that my time would be better spent at home.  So while I am a little sad to be leaving, my excitement for what’s to come is so much more!

I talk Forest’s ear off with the ideas and possibilities I have of focusing more time on my photography and I’m really looking forward to implementing those ideas and really putting myself out there to grow my business!  I’ll have more time for marketing, advertising, partnerships, and setting up fun sessions for clients!  I have 2 weddings that I’m photographing this month so maybe I’ll take on more weddings!  I don’t know how this business will grow but having the time to focus on doing just that is so exciting!

I used to spend my lunch hour hanging out with Peyton at daycare (for the first 8 months back from maternity leave)!  The daycare teachers and staff didn’t mind but spending 45 minutes with Peyton during the day was good for (I think) both of us!  Her schedule has changed and she now naps during my lunch hour so I don’t get to visit anymore.  We do think daycare has been really good for Peyton – she is a social butterfly for sure and it’s suited her well!  Because of this, we have several ideas of how she can still get interaction with other kids on a regular basis (hello story time at the public library + mommy groups at church + play dates with friends we haven’t seen in a really long time!).  We definitely won’t be missing the waves of colds that she came home with this fall and winter though – keep those germs away, please!

We would like to grow our family as well!  [no mom’s, we’re not pregnant :)]  While I’m looking forward to being at home with Peyton more often, I hope we are able to add another (or a few) little one(s) to our clan.  We know that’s all in God’s timing but it’s definitely something we’re thinking about as well!

This decision wasn’t just mine.  It was Forest’s as well.  We’ve been praying about it for months and we both feel like the time is right, that God has opened doors for us, He’s pushing and pulling us in directions that we wouldn’t have dreamed of a few years ago but here we are!  We’re trusting in Him and we’re so thankful for these opportunities.

I know there are soooo many mommy’s out there that wish they could be at home with their babies all day – I know it’s difficult!  I know how juggling everything and wearing close to 5 (or more!) hats at one time is exhausting but know that your babies look up to you whether you’re at home or you’re at work.  They see how hard you work and they feel all of your love!  Be the best example you can in whatever situation you find yourself, mama!

And I’ll leave you with an excerpt from this post (I love Ashley’s blog so very much!  I think I found her blog looking for photography tips but I check in with her every week to see what she has to share – so good!)

“The one place I do want to build a name for myself, so to speak, is inside the walls of my home….among the 5 people I share it with. I’ve got 4 little ones calling me “Mommy”…that is a name I want to work on building. If anyone thinks I am awesome…I want it to be my family.  I’ll take their construction paper flowers with jedi lightsabers over any online ranking. I want to rank high with them. I’ve only got a handful of years to do this role right. I don’t get a second chance. When they graduate, I won’t be given an option for a ‘do-over’. This go-around is all I got.  When the day closes…and computers are shutting down…they are the ones wrapping little arms around my neck and giving me ‘one more’ kiss goodnight.

“Mommy”…it is a name worth building.”

Until next time — Cindy
